2013 has seen many neat gadgets hit the market. Most of them, not affordable to the general public. That doesn’t stop us from dreaming. Here is my gadget wish list this Christmas:
Samsung Galaxy Gear
Approx. retail price: $299 (R3 089) |
Samsung
has unveiled their first smartwatch in the form of the
Samsung Galaxy Gear. It doesn’t look all that fancy as far as timepieces go.
That is because it isn’t your average timepiece. Samsung Galaxy Gear will pair
with Samsung phones and tablets to deliver notifications straight to the
device's 1.63-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display. It comes with a
built-in speaker and mic for hands-free calls, as well as support for Samsung's
S Voice, which lets you place calls, draft messages, create calendar entries,
set alarms and more using nothing but voice commands. There's also an
onboard 1.9 megapixel camera with a BSI sensor for quickly recording photos and
videos, which you can share to other websites directly from the smartwatch.
If
you don’t already have a Samsung Galaxy smartphone/tablet, hold out for
other manufacturer's version of this smartwatch which will surely be released
following Samsung's pioneer Galaxy Gear.
Kindle Paperwhite Wi-Fi
Approx. retail price: $199 (R2 056) |
I'm always looking out for the best e-reader
on the market. The display on the Kindle Paperwhite is high-res and
therefore great for reading in all conditions, whether it be day or night,
thanks to front-lighting tech. It differs little from the Kindle Touch and if you’re a fan of page-turn buttons and speakers that powered the
text-to-speech function of previous models you will be disappointed when you find the Paperwhite
does away with these features.
Star wars Millennium Falcon Lego set
Approx. retail price: $140 (R1 447) |
Lego has launched a range of Star wars
themed sets. This one isn’t technically a gadget, but is still a pretty cool
gift idea for the die-hard Star wars fan. Personally I would assemble it and
keep it on display allowing people to look but not touch ;o)
Emperor 200 Gaming Environment
Approx. retail price:$44 750 (R462 268) |
Something on the list for my gamer boyfriend. The ultimate custom-made gaming or workstation dream chair, created by the Canadian company, Modern Work Environment
Lab. This is as luxurious as gaming chairs go. A three-monitor display bends over the user to comfortably fall into the
line of sight. In addition to the three 24-inch LED touchscreens, the
scorpion-like setup includes an air filtration system that promises to keep
your lungs free from the pathogens that would otherwise occupy the stale air. The
Emperor 200 also includes a light therapy system, which allows gamers to get
their dose of Vitamin D, without having to go outdoors. The perfect gamers
gift, if you have the money to flaunt!
Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar
Approx. retail price: $40 (R413) |
The chocolate advent calendar is so last century. Count down to Christmas using this Star wars themed Lego advent calendar. It features a new figure every day, from December 1st up until Christmas eve.
Starbucks Verismo 600
Approx. retail price: $199 (R2 056) |
Capsule capable coffee machines are all the rage since they first hit the market last year. This year Starbucks has released their contribution to the home coffee maker market. The machine itself is slim and sexy. Your morning cup of Starbucks coffee in the comfort of your own home! Yum!
Cota induction charger
Not retailing yet |
Ossia hopes to license Cota to manufacturers for integration into consumer devices by 2015. The 2013 Cota invention looks to be the closest gadget on the market to true wireless and contactless charging. The system sends power from a source to a gadget straight through the airwaves, using the unlicensed 2.4Ghz spectrum where WiFi, Bluetooth, and other communication signals also pass through. Even better, it doesn't require line of sight, so you can keep the charger in the living room and get your phone charged while it sits on the side table in your bedroom! This gadget isn’t available for sale as yet. Keep watch on your fav gadget web sites for this one.
Garmin HUD
Approx. retail price: $129. 99 (R1 345) |
How
cool would it be to have smartphone apps show up directly on our car windshield,
so you never have to take our eyes off the road? That's exactly what the
Garmin HUD does.
It
takes data from the smartphone apps and projects a minimalist two-color layout
of useful information, such as arrows for turn-by-turn instructions, distance
from the next turn, estimated time of arrival, current speed and speed limit,
as well as traffic and camera alerts. A very cool gizzmo.
Mocoro
Approx. retail price: $64 (R661) |
The
Mocoro is a cute funky colured fur ball that expertly cleans your floors. Who would
think of creating a cleaning aid like this? The Japanese of course! The "microfiber hop ball" is
actually a rolling mop, picking up dust and dirt as it rolls around your
house.
Under all the colourful
fluff sits a robot that will autonomously send it trundling around the house
every 15 minutes, so the house stays clean throughout the day. Fun to watch
this little Langolier gadget scurry around your house picking up dirt. The not
so fun part is cleaning your little fur ball afterwards. Gross!
SteriShoe
Approx. retail price: $129.95 (R1 342) |
Got
a problem with stinky shoes? Or maybe you are OCD inclined and can't fight the
feeling that your shoes are crawling with germs? The SteriShoe is the gadget for you.
It has a UV-based sanitizer that kills germs living inside your footwear. It has the approval of the American
Podiatric Medical Association and is highly recommended for diabetics as part
of their general foot care regimen. I want this just to test it out.
That Emperor 200 Gaming Environment would be a sweet gift for a bf or fiance
ReplyDeleteFor sure. The Emperor 1510 is a cheaper option due to the Emperor 200 being very high end. If I had me the bucks, the 200 would be on my shopping list for that special someone of mine.
